It is a .zip file. Extract it somewhere. This is a newer version than what I had posted previously. Some features are added to this tool. The stuff on the TV Series tab does not work. The movies part does work. I stopped developing this tool but I am publishing the latest version I have developed.

My apologies for putting up a tool that is not really finished (the tv part). But I became frustrated with the tv part and quit working on it...

Symantec Endpoint Protection will not install because it says Pending system changes that require a reboot have been detected

Delete the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

You may also need to check for the key at these locations:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSetXXX\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations
Where XXX is a number. Again, delete the PendingFileRenameOperations.

Do not reboot, just try the install again.

New SID tool

Sysinternals has removed the download for newsid.exe. This tool is still valuable and we recently had to use it (and it did the job). I had a hard time finding it so I wanted to put it up in case someone else needs it.

Pairing a Motorola HS810 bluetooth headset with Motorola Droid

On the Droid, go to Settings>Wireless & networks>Make sure bluetooth is turned on (green checkmark)>tap Bluetooth Settings

Now, with you HS810 headset closed, hold in the call button until the blue light comes on. Hit the Scan for Devices on the Droid. Open the arm on the headset. The Droid should discover the headset and prompt you to add it. Once it is added, it is paired and should be usable.

Motorola Droid Visual Voicemail too quiet

For me, this one was easy. Just hit the menu button to bring up the menu and toggle the speaker. My speaker was turned off. Once I did that, messages were louder and easy to hear.

Nvidia Video Driver for Toshiba x505-860

This is for the GTS 360M. I know it is not available yet through Nvidia. Here is a copy of the drivers. This is for 64-bit OS (Windows 7).

I don't know how much the installer is tied to Toshiba. If you try to use these on something other than Toshiba, pay attention to where they extract to and maybe you can just point your video card driver update to the folder.

Vista hangs (reboot loop) installing update 3 of 3

I had this happen recently (10/20/09). I could not tell what the problem was, nor could I tell what update was failing. I tried safemode boot, last known good config, and repair, none worked.

To resolve this I booted off the Vista installation media, and selected repair. It tried to automatically repair startup configuration, and then came back saying it could not. One of the options was to go into advanced repair options. Chose that. Then chose command prompt. At command prompt:
>cd c:
>cd windows
>cd winsxs
>del pending.xml

Once the file was deleted, rebooted system. System went back to installing update 3 of 3 but this time it worked.
