Big Surprise...Transcode 360 is still alive and sounds like it's going to be improved!

James Botham has re-emerged from a long disappearance. He's back coding on Transcode 360. Have a look here:,5513

It looks like he is encorporating some new methods for encoding and will no longer rely on mencoder. Not that there is anything wrong with mencoder :)
Well, in the time I had on T360 I wrote a new wrapper which allows it to use Microsoft Expression Encoder (or Express which is free) through its SDK. This transcodes video using Expressions SDK using any available codec on the PC/Server, so if your media centre plays the file it should transcode it. (posted July 26, 2008)

I'm really glad to have stumbled on that post. I have been trying to find him and what happened to T360 and the site. Wow. Great news!

Thanks for all the great explanations on using transcode 360. Have you heard anything more on this new version? I am currently dead in the water with vista ultimate sp1 x64, MyMovies 2.52 and transcode260 1.6.3. If you have any ideas on how to fix I'd really appreciated it:

I have been looking for any more information and have not found any. Sorry. Are you getting a 'Communication Failed' error on the extender? That's the error most people get when using 64-bit.

You can try this. Take one of your ripped movies (make sure it is a folder structure like MovieName\Video_TS and the files (.vob) in the Video_TS folder. Put the Moviename folder into your Media Center's shared Videos folder. Bring up the extender and connect to the Media Center. Go to Videos. Highlight the thumbnail for the movie. Bring up the options menu (using my xbox 360controller the X button does this). Select the first option (I believe it is 'more options'). You should see something you can click that says 'transcode'. Click it and see if that works.
